Sarah Kent writes in London After Dark, an essay accompanying the photographs: 'Some people seek release from the challenges of the day in drink, drugs and rock 'n' roll, but for others, the hours of darkness are a time of introspection and reverie. Bakker avoids the pleasure seekers and, in search for peace, has produced an elegiac meditation on life in the city.'
